Workshop at Women’s Center

The Women’s Daytime Drop-In Center in Berkeley invited us to offer their clients a Self-Defense Workshop last Friday. We started with a brief introduction to basic concepts of effective personal safety. Then we demonstrated quick reponses to escape from simple attacks. It was a pleasure to show the value of WingChun training to the attentive and grateful group. Many of them were from disadvantaged backgrounds, which made the relevance of the protection skills we shared quickly apparent. Our presentation was well-received, since immediately after we finished many asked when we’d be back. Days later, some of the attendees even recognized me downtown. Once again, they expressed appreciation for us visiting them. A big thanks to Megan Hemmerle, a student at our IAW-US Headquarters, for her input and participation that helped make this a successful event.
